Kila is a Goliath Barbarian played by Maddy in the Crucible campaign.

Background

Life At Home

- Kila grew up in a loving home in a beautiful bay, but her family was extremely poor. Her home was a one room shack made of rotted wood that had no furniture, and her family slept on rotted blankets on the floor. It was just her and her parents and they often went without necessities.

- Kila has always only had one true friend, a fellow Goliath by the name of Melane. Melane and Kila went to school together as children (where they learned basic reading, writing, and math, if you wanted to learn more you had to leave the village to continue your schooling elsewhere), and they became an unstoppable duo. Nothing was too big or scary for them.

- Kila left home as soon as she could enlist in the army, hoping to get out of her small village and get her family out of poverty.

- Kila asked Melane to look after her aging parents while she was away in the army, however, Melane now has a newborn and so her priorities have shifted. Kila is worried that Melane won’t be able to fulfill her promise of taking care of her parents, but does not blame her at all.

- Her mother and father have kept up with sending letters to Kila while she’s in the army, and in her mother’s latest letter, it is revealed that her father has contracted Sight Rot and will go blind in time.

Life in the Army

- Kila loves the fact that the army lets her meet new people and go new places.

-Kila was a foot soldier in (placeholder) army, nothing more than a grunt. She never felt camaraderie with her fellow soldiers as her squad was jealous of the fact that a seven foot tall woman could mow through enemies easier than them. They left her out of card games, stole her rations, and played cruel tricks on her.

- Her only real friendship in the army was with Ilathi, a small malnourished rat who she shared her rations with (when they weren’t stolen). In the back of her head she’s always wondered if Ilathi would still be her friend if she couldn’t give him food anymore.

- Kila was knocked out in a bloody battle, and when she awoke, she was in The Crucible. All she wants is to get back home to her parents, before her father’s eyesight is taken from him. At the time she was kidnapped, she was 23 years old.

Personality

Positives

- Kila is a very upbeat person, always smiling and complimenting strangers on their appearance. She loves meeting new people and making friends in the most unlikely places.

- She always looks on the bright side of things. Her philosophy in life is that she’s made it this far without being pessimistic or realistic, so surely her half glass full mindset is working? It’s kept her alive so far so might as well keep at it!

Negatives

- While Kila is always smiling, it is sometimes detrimental. She tends to inappropriately smile at bad situations (which can make her look deranged), and if trying to reassure someone, she leans into toxic positivity. Her optimistic outlook on life often lands her in trouble, as she assumes the best of people and situations.

- Kila at her core, is someone who craves friendship and family, as she misses hers and the connection that comes with it. As a result, she is a people pleaser, often at her own expense. Whether it’s spending money on an ale to make a stranger feel better about their day, or lying to someone about their good attributes, it is an issue she needs to work on, but she is not aware of it yet.
